My cousin's ancestor was William Gibbs, the original name was Wolf Gips. He was born 1861 in Botosani, Romania. The city of Botosani was predominatly Jewish at that time, but later most of the community left for NYC due to laws which changed there. He immigrated to NYC. He married Sophia Schwitkes, who was also a Romanian Jewish immigrant from Romania.
William and Sophie lived at 114 Tudor place, Bronx. They lived there from prior to 1930 census to their death. They had been in Manhattan prior to the Bronx. Their dauther Rose Rowena Gibbs worked for the Motion Pitures Company. She lived in the Bronx, single, until her death in the 1970's. She married in 1922 to Jack Weinstein, but they divorced soon after, and used her maiden name fater divorce.
I have death dates for William, Sophie, and Rose. However I don't know where they are buried. I would like to find their burial place. I would also like to share info with others who are researching Romanian immigrants. William Gibbs worked in a Suspender factory from 1900 until his retirement. I would also like to find out the name of the exact suspender factory. I have found that the name GIPS is the original spelling, and the various immigrants then changed it to Gibbs in New York. I found many such families and I would be glad to help others.
    Best regards,
    Lilly Martin
